Project title: The Planet said to me
MEASURE: Leader rahvusvahel. projekt
Measure name: Leader measure
Theme: youth
Keywords: environment
Start year: 2011
Local action group: LAG West-Estonian Islands Partnership
Name of the beneficiary: LAG West-Estonian Islands Partnership
Homepage: http://www.skk.ee
Backround of the project: The project has been developed by Mrs Martine THIELMANNS in Réidener Jugendtreff association in Luxemburg to answer the need to educate the youth in environmental matters, to make them aware and more sensitive to environmental issues; something they had not perhaps noticed before.
Objectives of the project: The goals of the project are to increase the young people´s knowledge of environment, about the importance of environmental issues and how to bear environment in mind in everyday life. They are encouraged to share their experiences and environmental knowledge in their community, schools, youth houses etc. The focus group of the project is mainly the youth in between 15 to 18 years of age.

International cooperation gives the participating young people experiences on working together transnationally, develop a philosophy of exchange between the areas. They learn to work together with people of different identities (rural urban for example) and different cultures. They also see that the problems may be different but they are common and working together with different European partners helps to create a global vision of the problems and also to work together in searching solutions.
Main activities: The project lasts 3 years. The groups of young people from partners regions come together in an international camp or action-week in different partner regions. Action-weeks takes place at the end of July in summers 2011,2012 and 2013. In summer 2011 the action-week took place in Luxembourg. The theme of the first year was water and saving water. Second action-week took place in France. The theme of the second year was recycling. Third action-week will be in Estonia and Finland. The theme of the third year is renewable energy sources. During each year of the project the youth group in every partner region examined the theme in their region and planned presentation for the action-week. During the action-week themes were represented in different workshops and with visiting different places related the theme. The themes were represented and explored through different forms of art and also in theory.
Output and results indicators: The project has increased the environmental knowledge and sensitivity of the youth. The products of the project of each group have been displayed on locally in their own region for example in youth houses and in schools. The young people of each group in every region have been messengers of environmental issues in their region. The project has shown that environmental issues can be presented in different ways. The concept of the project and the methods the young people used may be easily transferred to any region and any country.
Experiences/lessons learned: The youth have acquired knowledge of many new things on environmental protection and got new tools with which they can share the knowledge around. Travelling abroad has often been a learning experience to the participants. The youth from different countries have gotten to know each other and have got to share their views face to face with other young people from different countries using English.
