Sum of support: 24 188 EUR
Backround of the project: Thanks to the NGO's activity children of Pikakannu School can spend their spare time in acting-class, judo-training, handicraft- and music class, aerobics and gymnastics. Parents come together to have a common cleaning-constructing days to work together for the sake of environment and skiing trails, to participate on computer courses and studying days. In summer they organize different camps and tours.

In accordance with development directions of Lasva municipality the area's villages pay more attention for strengthening the local and communal identity, improving the living environment and supporting entrepreneurial development. For that reason they write projects that are addressed to self-education, spending active holidays and spare time and improving entrepreneurial development and this project is one part of the big action plan of developing community.
Main activities: Compiling the construction project of the Pikakannu old schoolhouse, purchasing over-lock sewing machine, renovating Pikakannu museum-room and organizing series of events.
Output and results indicators: Different generations operate in Pikakannu old schoolhouse/community house. There are many different services for families with children, including babysit. Acknowledged kitchen adds value through cooking courses and natural costumes are made in women handicraft classes. Thanks to the activities of community house the whole area is now child-friendlier and more attractive for families with children. Community center offers modern household conditions and is located near elementary school, so village association brings back young families to live there and preserves a homeplace for local inhabitants and prevents the leaving process to bigger settlements or towns.

Thanks to the development of Pikakannu community house they now have Pikakannu Elementary School and babysit services for families with children in the area. The children food contains only local products. There are different hobby classes operating in the small community. Villagers can participate in workshops about local Võru county food and thereby use local raw material. Pikakannu Community house also offers the service of renting seminar rooms.

There is now attractive community thanks to the activities of community house. Links between generations, acknowledge transmission to younger generation and implementation of tradition skills have created a strong community where inhabitants are proud of their identity.
Experiences/lessons learned: Pikakannu community house together with the village is a good example of creating acting community which keeps the young families and children in the rural areas of quality life. Somewhere in the nowhere.
