| Backround of the project: | The cooperation project is based on valuing local products and food in the area of Estonian LAG Development Center. The cooperation partners are Sepra ry (Finland, Kymenlaakso region - http://www.seprat.net) and Pohjois-Kymen Kasvu ry (Finland - http://www.pohjois-kymenkasvu.fi). The opening event of the project was held on 24th August, 2011 in Palmse, Vihula municipality. |
| Objectives of the project: | The project will set a ground for bigger cooperation between the actors in local food, rural tourism and handicraft sector on developing and marketing products and services. The main emphasis is on local food products. The project would like to offer different development activities for actors in local food, rural tourism and handicraft. They will exchange information, experiences, involve new actors into the existing cooperation network "Genuine Experiences in Lahemaa" by organizing study-trips, thematic workshops and discussions. One of the project activities will be mapping the local small food producers to create a network which would make the local food and direct marketing more valuable. The further aim of the project is to promote home cooking, local food, to popularize local food among young people and to bring local food to local schools and kindergartens to make healthier food from local raw-material. |
| Main activities: | The project will pay attention to home-cooked food through local food days and competitions. Local tourism-farms and home-cooks can compete on making baking, desserts, soups and cold snacks. It is really important to involve local community and associations who could also support and value local area's products and food. The representatives of different associations can participate on study-trips and workshops together with the entrepreneurs to develop local products and services for creating bigger cooperation with local entrepreneurs. We could also share our experiences with our Finnish partners on involving youth to community life and family enterprises. It is planned to have study-camps for Estonian and Finnish youth in both countries. | Output and results indicators: | 1. As the result of the project the cooperation between the area's rural tourism entrepreneurs, local food producers and associations on local products, services and common marketing development will grow bigger. The existing cooperation network "Genuine experiences in Lahemaa" will have new members and cooperation partners. 2. As the result of study-trips and workshops there will be concrete cooperation contacts between Estonian and Finnish entrepreneurs and associations which will create a proper base for developing new products and services. It will also diversify the amount of services and products. 3. The project initiators have mapped the local food producers of the LAG Development Center area and they have their own cooperation network and started the common marketing of different products and services. 4. The local identity of area's inhabitants and LAG Development Center. The local food is now more valuable for local people and the home-cooking is more popular in the area. |
| Experiences/lessons learned: | It is planned to apply again to get support for activities which wasn't supported during the main programme: compiling and printing the cook-book; organizing the competition for choosing the suitable logo for the areas' local food; organizing study-trips and practice days in Estonia; and establishing a special site about the food project to the LAG Development Center web-site. |
