Project title: Meat co-operative PYHL - developing the producer group
MEASURE: 1.9
Measure name: Creating and developing the producer groups
Theme: joint activity/cooperation
Keywords: Producer groups, joint activities, pig-breeding
Start year: 2010
Name of the beneficiary: Meat co-operative PYHL
Sum of support: 80 000 EUR (2010); 68 925 EUR (2011)
Backround of the project: The main idea of the project is to develop a well-working partnership and co-operation between pig breeders. The aim was to find new partners by implementing joint activities - it helps to realize their production commonly.

The need for the project arose from the fact that acting together allows to market with lower prices.
Objectives of the project: Developing meat co-operative as acknowledged producer groups
Main activities: The project helped to find out the common aims of the members. They found suitable coordinator, who constantly realizes or processing the members' production. They also found right partners to market their products in a stable way and who are competitive on price, paying conditions and transport.
Output and results indicators: The main achievement of the project is that it is now easier to find loyal partners because the amount of products are bigger, so the whole business isn't so risky.

The another result of the project is the higher quality of pig products which helps to develop the national pig breeding program in an indirect way. The quality of Estonian pork is thought to be really good,

The joint activities of the project also helped to guarantee the stability of pig breeding in Estonia.
Experiences/lessons learned: The co-operative developed into a strong and sustainable one, during the project. Now there is an up-going trend among agricultural producers to market commonly and also the loyalty among members grew.

The implied aim was to encourage pig breeders to join and to raise the activity level of joint activities - with the same aim. Until that time the joint marketing of pork wasn't so popular, every entrepreneur was interested in his own success and there was a lot of competition between producers. Thanks to the project they developed into effective cooperation partners.
