Project title: Bird-watch-tower/clay-house of Kiideva nature centre
MEASURE: Leader
Theme: natural environment
Keywords: bird watching, village development
Start year: 2009
Local action group: LAG Kodukant Läänemaa
Name of the beneficiary: NGO Kalaküla Rohelised
Sum of support: 11 365 EUR
Backround of the project: The aim of the association is to develop the village life in Kiideva through nature education and tourism activities. They started to develop Kiideva Nature Centre in 2007. Thanks to different supports, tables and desks were placed in the outdoor classroom, wooden meadows were restored and a hiking trail from Kiideva to Puise. To organize bird-watching and outdoor classes they need to have secure watching tower and information room that would inform the visitor about local nature.
Objectives of the project: To establish multifunctional birdwatching tower/harbour/information rooms in the area. Over 3000 people visit the area in year. The wider aim of Kiideva Nature Centre is to create an active base for nature educational activities: outdoor classes, nature studing camps, working- and recreational camps.
Main activities: Accomplishing tanking-works of roof-ceiling of birdwatching tower/clay-house; establishing the floor of level framework of roof-ceiling of watch-tower; establishing two-sided wooden door and five windows; establishing 1.2 m high wooden railing with 23 steps, two platforms and stairway with two-sided banister.
Output and results indicators: Establishing birdwatching tower/harbour/information rooms in Kiideva Nature Centre which is unique for its looks (rounded) and functionality (information point, place to keep life jackets and other equipment). The building is designed into nature educational information centre where people can organize different nature educational activities. Boatmen can keep their life jackets and other equipment in the bench/storage in information room. A flag post and a information board that presents cardinal points is situated on the birdwatching tower. People can enjoy the beautiful view of the whole Matsalu Bay from the platform of birdwatching tower (36m2).

Through the nature tourism activities the old fishing village will be revived and the variety of North Matsalu National Park will be valued more. The ground maintenance and reputation is also raised. Local people can have seasonal jobs on offering community services. A former declining and actual vital village will be added to Ridala municipality. An area that shares the knowledge about environment is now added to Lääne county by developing Kiideva's Nature Centre.
Experiences/lessons learned: To value and retain the worth of homevillage and to share their experiences to other communities.
