The H2020 AgriLink project has organised an online e-workshop during June 2021 to open a debate on Living Labs and AKIS.
Based upon AgriLink’s own Living Lab experience and findings, the aim of this e-workshop has been to open a debate around two questions:

• How can the Living Lab (LL) approach, as applied within the AgriLink project, contribute to an AKIS that supports the sustainable development of agriculture?
• Conversely, how can strategic actions to strengthen the AKIS support the development of Living Labs?

In AgriLink, we consider Living Lab as a co-design process. We followed the definition of a Living Lab according to the European Network of LL (ENoLL), 5 key elements must be present in a LL

1. active user involvement (i.e. empowering end users to thoroughly impact the innovation process)
2. real-life setting (i.e. testing and experimenting with new artefacts “in the wild”)
3. multi-stakeholder participation (i.e. the involvement of technology providers, service providers, relevant institutional actors, professional or residential end users)
4. a multi-method approach (i.e. the combination of methods and tools originating from a range of disciplines including ethnography, psychology, sociology, strategic management, engineering)
5. co-creation (i.e. iterations of design cycles with different sets of stakeholders)

The e-workshop has been organised with two steps.

• Firstly, Between June 9th and July 2nd a series of questions has been proposed using Google Docs and participants have been invited to respond and start a dialogue. Two rounds of questions have been used:
  1 The first series of questions targeted the following question: What can actually be expected from Living Labs? How can they contribute to enhance the effectiveness and responsiveness of AKIS policies?
  2 The second series of questions addresses a complementary issue: What role could AKIS and advisory policies play in a further diffusion of the Living Lab approach for supporting the sustainable development of agriculture?
• Secondly, on July 5th (14:00-16:00 CET), a webinar will be organised to present a synthesis of the contributions to the Google Docs and to continue the discussion.
